What is Zumba
It just happened that a dancer and fitness trainer ,in the 1990’s a Colombian dancer and choreographer called Alberto Beto Perez
was teaching aerobics in the class when he realized that he forgot his aerobics music at home. But , He was carrying a backpack in which instead, he found a tape containing Salsa and Merengue music (Types of Latin American dance) in his backpack. The next thing he did was he decided to combine the moves of both the styles and thus Zumba was born!
In no time the new dance fitness program became so popular that Perez teamed up with his friends Alberto Periman and Alberto Aghion and took it to the USA. A company called fitness Quest took one look at the demo video and licensed it. The rest as they say is history!
The Zumba Academy was set up in 2005 to train instructors. Today Zumba classes are held in more than 150 countries and the workout has more than 14 million avid followers.
Zumba incorporates moves from a list of dance forms such as Soca, Samba, mambo,k Hip Hop, belly dancing ,martial arts and even bhangara!
Each session is about an hour long and moreover there is a different Zumba routine for different age groups so that young and old both can take the zumba exercise regime. There is even a work out for the swimming pool called Zumba Aqua and there is video games based on Zumba.
Zumba is a mixture of aerobics and several Latin American dances. Calories are burnt by performing Zumba dance moves but in a very lively and fun way.
