Arjuna Award Prize Money

1 The award comprises “a bronze statuette of Arjuna, certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of ₹15 lakh.

2 Arjuna Award is the second-highest sporting honour of India , the highest being the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.

3 Before the introduction of the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna in 1991–1992, the Arjuna award was the highest sporting honour of India.

4 The award was established in 1961. The award is named after “Arjuna”, one of the character of ancient Indian epic “Mahabharata”.

5 The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports gives the Arjuna Award each year. It is awarded annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

6 The President of India presents the award to sportspersons in different categories. The Arjuna Award is given to sportspersons for consistently outstanding performance over the last four years at the international level.

7 It is given in various categories in international, national, para-sports and sportspersons who compete in indigenous games and the physically handicapped category.
