Establishment
Established in the year 1930 as a wildlife sanctuary, it was given the recognition of tiger reserve in the year 1973 under Project Tiger. It is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve since 1986.
Location
The Tiger Reserve is situated in the contiguous landscape which is spread in the two revenue districts of Southern Karnataka namely the Mysore (Nanjangud & H.D. Kote Taluks) and Chamarajanagar (Gundlupet Taluk). It is part of the Western Ghats Tiger Landscape consisting of Mudumalai, Nagarahole Tiger Reserves and the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary.
Karnataka has the second largest population of tigers in India, with Madhya Pradesh taking the first position. It is in Chamarajnagar district in the Indian state of Karnataka.
